In this article, I am going to show that you will learn about the various spelling checker in PowerPoint, including the spelling tool.

Make sure your slideshow is free of spelling errors to make it look professional. There are several spelling checker options in PowerPoint. You can use a spelling checker in PowerPoint, or you can have PowerPoint check your spelling as you write.

How to run a spelling checker in PowerPoint

1 First, On the PowerPoint ribbon, find the Review tab and click on it.
2 Click on the Spelling button here on the left side.

3 The Spelling and Spelling dialog box appears. For each mistake in your presentation, PowerPoint will try to recommend one or more solutions. To fix the mistake, pick an opportunity and click Change.

4 To stop the spell check before it complete, click Close.

Note
If you want to easily search the spelling dialog box. You can use a keyboard shortcut “F7”.

Ignoring spelling checker in PowerPoint (mistakes)

The spelling checker in PowerPoint is not constantly correct. Sometimes this indicates that something is wrongly written when it is not. This also happens when type one or more people’s names in your presentation because people’s names are not included in dictionaries.

If PowerPoint explains to you that something is incorrect in your typing, you can select one of three options not to change it:

  • Ignore once: This will skip over the word without modifying it.
  • Ignore All: It will avoid words without change, and it will avoid all other examples of the words in the presentation.
  • Add: It adds the word to the dictionary which ensures that it can never be mistyped. Check that the word is pronounced correctly before selecting this option.

Automatic spelling checker in PowerPoint

You don’t even need to run a separate checker with the Spelling command because PowerPoint automatically tests the presentation for spelling errors by default. These errors are shown by red misspelled lines.

To use the automatic spelling checker in PowerPoint:

1 Select the underlined error word and right-click on the word. There will be a menu. A correct spelling list will appear.

2 From the list of sentences, select the correct spelling of a word.

3 In the presentation, the corrected word will appear.

For more options, select Ignore underlined word, Add To Dictionary, or go to the Spelling dialog box.

Turn Off Automatic Spelling Checker in PowerPoint

When making presentations in other languages, you may want to change the default English spelling checker in PowerPoint or turn it off (disabled) so that the red lines under the words don’t show in the slides.

To disable automatic spelling checker in PowerPoint:

1 In the PowerPoint ribbon, click on the File tab, click Options.
2 Click on the Proofing in the PowerPoint Options dialog box.

3 There are different options in the PowerPoint Options dialog box to choose from:

  • Check spelling as you type: If you don’t want PowerPoint to check for spelling errors automatically, uncheck this box. (This checks for misspelled words automatically.)
  • Hide spelling and grammar errors: If you want to cover the red misspelled lines that indicate spelling and grammar errors, check this box. (If the check spelling as you type option is not selected, this option is disabled.)
  • Frequently confused words: If you want PowerPoint to check for spelling errors, such as using yours against you, check this box.
  • Make grammar errors as you type: Your grammar is not automatically tested in PowerPoint as it is in Word. You might find that using a grammar check is beneficial.
